Job Description:
Description POSITION SUMMARY: Responsibilities include but are
not limited to: Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for
subsequent evaluation and interpretation by a Radiologist. Assist
physician with invasive procedures. Perform bedside examinations
and procedures when indicated. Work in a sterile surgery room when
an operative ultrasound exam is requested. Transport patients when
necessary. Cover weekday, weekend and holiday call coverage on a
rotating schedule. Overtime and shift rotation may be required.
Must be able to perform jobs in all patient care and operational
areas subject to reasonable accommodations. Must participate in the
Respiratory Protection Program, which may include the wearing of a
respirator. See Essential Job Functions. This is a non-union
position. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Demonstrates competence and
working knowledge in all areas of ultrasound techniques and
positioning, procedure preparation and examinations including
abdominal obstetrical gynecological, small parts and other
anatomical areas as required Able to perform vascular examinations
such as arterial and venous Doppler. 2. Maintains knowledge of the
principles of ultrasound physics, anatomy, and medical terminology
as required for the successful performance of duties as set forth
by the American Society of Registered Diagnostic Medical
Sonographers. 3. Demonstrates the ability to solve job-related
problems such as equipment malfunctions, alternate patient
positioning, different views and realization of equipment and
patient limitations. 4. Consults with the appropriate personnel to
obtain a complete clinical history and gathers pertinent clinical
data. 5. Lifts, moves and transports patients via wheelchair,
gurney or bed. Push an ultrasound machine to patient’s room to
perform bedside examinations when necessary. Enter sterile surgical
environment with limited space to maneuver an ultrasound machine.
6. Interact closely with the Radiologist when performing
examinations or procedures to obtain a diagnosis that will aid the
attending physician with the proper diagnosis. 7. Covers call on a
rotating basis and if necessary, rotates shifts with other staff
sonographers. Variable 8-hour shifts M-F and or Variable evening
and weekend 12-hour call shifts Qualifications Education: As
established by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical
Sonographers to obtain RDMS status. Experience: Minimum of 1 year
experience as a RDMS in an acute care facility is preferred.
Licenses/Certificates: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
(RDMS), a minimum of 1 specialty Abdomen or OB/GYN required.
